Pause, Peruse, Ponder, and Paliverate

When I started in Z, it was, and is, my intention to represent all 50 states with unique and recognizable buildings, land forms, etc. I contacted all the tourest information centers in all 50 states and got a mound of information.(That was 20 years ago) If any of you have any suggestions, please comment, I need all the help I can get!!
While thinking about California I saw a tree with a tunnel thru it, so I googled Seqoia.
The tallest tree in the world is a Giant Seqouia named General Sherman. It is 275' tall.
in Z that would be about 15". I typed this msg before with a proper format, but it appeared really messed up when I previewed the msg before posting, so I'll try a different format.

Height 275'- Z = 15", N = 20.5", HO = 38", O = 69", LGB = 147"

Diameter at base 36' - Z = 2", N = 2.75", HO = 5", O = 9", LGB = 20"

Ground to first level of limbs 130'- Z = 7", N = 9.6", HO = 17.5", O = 32", LGB = 68"

More fun- In T it would be about Height- 7.5", Dia- 1", Height to first limbs 3.5"

These figures are not chizzeled in stone but are as approximate as my abacus could figure and cross checked by my DIGITAL computer-- my fingers!!
That is the reason I got into Z in the first place. We can model what the Big Boys can only dream of- in scale. Just think about skyscrapers, lighthouses, containerships, and even LOOONG trains! So many posibilities and so little time!
Foresooth I should procrastinate any further, I will end this missive and post- no matter how perplex it turns out.

Great idea Fred. Big trees are a little more complicated. Giant Sequoias, like the General Sherman are the largest in girth. However, Coastal Redwoods are much taller. The tallest I know of is 379 feet, over 20 inches in z scale! Try googling Redwood.

So Fred, what have you chosen for Alaska? If you haven't made a choice yet I have so many ideas to model in AK since I lived there over 30 years. Lots of pictures too, and in none of them do I ever intend to use snow!
Thought I'd sneak in a picture of my boys in front of a Redwood that is maybe 2 hours from here. Its big, you shouldn't have to do the biggest to make it impressive and get the point across.

Karin, Thanks for responding. I have some realy neat totem poles, and I thought I'd use a little seaplane as that is prevelent to hop the far reaches of the state. I have the ABA Alaskas but still don't have a definitive building or landmark yet for Alaska. I thought I'd use one of the mountains in the backdrop. Any help would be appreciated.

OK Fred, maybe I'll send you some photos. As far as the Redwoods, they don't have to be giant to be impressive. This one (I hope it comes through in this post!) was just along the road maybe 2-3 hours from here in N. California. Those are my twin boys standing in front of it. Notice the very "chunky" look to the bark? You could have a lot of fun making these...

I don't mean to be picky, but the word "paliverate" isn't in either of my two dictionaries (Oxford and Macquarie). Is it perhaps solely an American usage?

if you look up your dictionary you will find Pulverate
"...To beat or reduce to powder or dust; to pulverize..."

the Merriam-Webster Dictionary USA 1974-- I don't have a newer Dictionary

palverator- one who palaverates

Not sure if it's an Americanism but the Brits had to do some palaverating while they were parleying with the FIRST GEORGE (Washington) - not the third

Karin, I was thinking of a dog sled team, an eagle swooping down for a fish- maybe taking it away from a bear, a partial pipeline, a Russian onion dome church, salmon fishing boat, The house at Totem Bight State Park, an Alaska Airways plane from WINGS.
What else might be good.

These are just thoughts, for Alaska, right now-
Many of the structures, land formations are used together such as NH Old Man of the Mountain and Covered Bridge, is in the background for MA Old North Church, Glouchster Fisherman, Pilgrim Monument, Swanboats, Lexington Minuteman,Motif#1- Maine lobsterboat, Portland Head Lighthouse,RI, America's cup races,
Conn sub base etc, etc. These are all done and if the house isn't big enough I'll move the cats out!!!

This is ALASKA- gotta think big
No other suggestions from other states???

Southern Illinois had pigs and outhouses, at least when I was growing up. I spent 3 years in Oklahoma and only seen dirt. Oil well might be nice..maybe some of those pumps.

Kelley, I got the dirt covered, and belive it or not, I made a pig pen with slops, and shed many years ago- now I know where to put it. I've also made outhouses but plan on a double decker with ladies on the bottom-- sorry ladies but I thought I'd save you climbing all those stairs.
