Sixty-Four foot Reefer was created by stonysmith
It's time for another collaborative project.
Here's the proto:

and here's my first attempt at it:

All comments/suggestions are fair game. I can't improve it unless someone tells me what more they'd like to see.

I don't see a tank of any kind under the reefer unit on the prototype. Is there a reason you have one?

I don't object to it being there...in fact, there probably should be some sort of fuel storage on the car.

That tank, if you are talking about the one under the frig unit, is the frig's fuel tank.

Garth,

Was I asleep when the news channel announced the info or do you have some insider info regarding IM's second body style?

There is a Green lite to indicate a running reefer. Any way to make this in the casting so choppers can drill it out and add an fiber optic lite?

Here's the next update.. I'm re-desiging this model for the new Frosted Ultra Detail material which allows parts down to three inches thick. This version has grille work on the A/C unit and the railings on the front end.

Stony,
having the railings printed, do you really think they are strong enough? All RP material I know is very brittle. I would go with some etched parts.

Cheers

That's the point of this version.. it's a test to see how the railings survive during shipping. If they don't work, then I'll rip them off and we'll have to find a source for etched brass. If it DOES work, then we have real potential here.

There's a bit of circular logic .. This new material is stronger, therefore able to support the thinner walls. But thinner walls make it more fragile, requiring more strength. From what I've seen, this new material (an acrylic plastic) is pretty tough. It's at least worth giving it a good try.

There is always the option of using a Dremel to cut off the plastic railings and replace them with brass, for those who have that skillset.

Another idea is to create extra railing/detail sets. Since you already have the car designed, break out the railing/details as their own seperate model. These models then could be used as replacements or kitbashing parts.

If so don't go with brass, use stainless steel etched parts, brass gets bent easily and it will never look straight again...

the first body shots were on the table with the 4 bay hopper at Houston last November. The first complete model I saw was in N-scale but they showed me the drawings for Z at that time and the etchings for the end bay with reefer unit to go on the end of the car.No delivery dates was given but they though early 2012 might be the way it goes. The N-scale version was to be delivered this I remember correctly.
