Florida Layout

Florida Layout was created by rvn2001
By popular request, here are some close-up pictures of the Florida-themed layout I just finished building for a customer. The gentleman saw our small humidors and boxed layouts near the end of the show on Sunday in Galesburg, Illinois. He asked if I could build one for him and I agreed. I gave him my contact information not expecting to hear from him as so often happens. He contacted me and sent a drawing of what he had in mind. I sent him several track-plans designed on Anyrail using broad curves but he insisted on using Marklin's smallest radius curves. This is the layout we finally decided on. It fits in a 2' x 4' glass-topped display case bought at a store-supply store. It is completely self-contained using a Medvend panel-mount control sold by Z-track powered by a 7-cell 8.4-volt 3800mah radio-control car battery. The built-up station is a representation of the St. Petersburg, FL station that was destroyed long ago. He also wanted Jacksonville, FL represented. I accomplished this by applying pictures of the rail yard and depot as a backdrop in one corner. Below are some close up pictures of the completed layout.

Thanks Thom for the close up shots. That looks like a FUN layout. I like all the small sceens. One thing I might do is paint the palm trees a flat color to take away the plastic sheen.

Born and raised in Santa Barbara, California, if I remember correctly most palm fronds do have quite a sheen to them... the trunk on the other hand is very rough and "flat".

Great job, BTW.

This should be a link to the YouTube video of the layout as delivered. It's been picked up and my customer was extremely happy with it.

Enjoy,
Thom

Hey Thom! her is a hanger you can built for the Hughe's H-4 Hercules (spruce Goose)

I figure it would post it here instead of the main Post! Fred will like this becaue of the Queen Mary in the background I've been on it several times back in the 70's when I was stationed in San Diego Calif. and live in Cerritos Calif.
