Faces to names!

Wow, it was great to meet you guys!!!! Now I can put your face to your names, but then again with my poor memory...
Now I have met for the first time:

And then there are the rest of you whom we already met before but were very glad to see you again. If I dared to name you then I'd be sure to forget someone. But generally speaking it was good to see all of our friends again from CZM, the Sutfin's, Rich from RSLaser, John Lundy (or newest SOZME member) and anyone else from the Pacific Northwest area. Also good to meet, once again, another female modeler, Robin Christle from CZM. We all had a good time, very tired, a bit ticked at some kids and their parents, but overall a fun show.

So, now when I talk to you on chat I'll know what you REALLY look like! Worse yet, you know what I look like

It was nice to meet you too. I enjoyed chatting with you about Dizzyland. I wish I could have chatted with Loren more, but he bounces around a lot.

I chatted for some time with Eric L. Foxman (Z-ELF) about his suitcase layouts. This was of particular interest to me since his layouts (and Loren's silverware case layout) were what got my wife interested in me giving up HO and starting in Z. And also because I'm doing a suitcase layout, I got to ask some questions.

It was great to see John Lundy's BN unit train headed by BNSF motive power cruising the Southern Oregon modules.

As I've said, I look forward to constructing a module or 2 and getting in with the group.

Thanks, Karin. It was lots of fun meeting so many people I've only known "virtually", seeing so many layouts and modules, and even getting to run some of my trains.

Sorry to all about my misbehaving Sounder set balking on the inner loop: the loco is currently sitting in the corner thinking about what it had done. The CA on that once-loose platform (to which the barely-coupling coupler was precariously attached) is solidly glued, keeping the whole thing together. I tested my gluing handiwork this afternoon, and the whole trainset stays together nicely (as it *should* have from the start, but didn't). (My next task: re-gauging the wheels - then I'll be ready for the next show.)

You just have to step on my foot and get me to stand still. That's what Karin does and it seems to work, but causes my bunion to hurt.

If I seemed in a rush, I probably was, but I'm always happy to talk Z unless I have to rush off and rescue something broken or not working or needing immediate attention, (like using the men's room)

I promise to stand still next time and engage in meaningful conversation if you will try again.

We get to "know" each other on the internet-ZSC and other groups, and often a name is just a name , easy to forget and hard to remember for some of us, and we- read I- associate the avatar, or pictures better. Maybe our name tags should also incoperate a small avatar. Then I don't have to go to the trouble of trying to find my name but look for pictures. - I'm a picture book kind a guy.

This weekend I full filled my first New Years resolution that I posted here in January.
I attended the GTE show in Portland and met some terrific modelers but above all, some terrific people. As I told Loren I had them at a disadvantage since I had seen pics on ZCS and other sites of several modelers in attendance. My only regret is I couldn't be there on Saturday and didn't meet Jeremy or Zane (or see John's BNSF run).

Seeing these models in real life gives you a different perspective than via photos. It was a good learning experience seeing the different ideas in use, and learning the operational side. While at the show Joe worked on his module and was fun to see it go from bare soil to an orchard over the course of a few hours.

When I got to work today my boss (a dyed in the wool HO fan: why do you mess with those tiny trains- type) asked how the show was. I opened up the photos Zane took (man you guys post fast) and by the time we were through he is thinking about a Z module.
Loren he was really impressed with your mountain work, and especially your burnt forest.

Best of all I was able to send some of my engines and rolling stock on their maiden voyage. Most performed well right out of the box (thanks MTL).

All in all it was a pleasant day and I look forward to the next meet (where I will have a module).

I want to chime in too with a big "thank you" for your willingness to be where ever and whatever I needed help at. Your willing attitude was greatly appreciated and it was great getting to know you at the show.

I too wish you could have been there both days. Something good always happens every day of a show and one show day is just not enough of a "fix" it seems.

But of course, by the time the show ends, the only thoughts going on in anyone's head is
"let's get packed up and get on the road" Dorothy was right it seems......"there's no place like home" The memories linger longer than the sore back, feet, or head, (if you happen to come up too fast under the module.

Karin was amazed that I wasn't sore on Monday and today. I told her you don't feel sore when you are numb.

Tell your boss that if he is bored with his HO life and wants a challenge, then Z is where it is at. Just don't smirk too much when you say that.....I'd hate to see you get laid off for being right......

It will be great to see your first module at the next show we all get together at. Wonder when that will be?
