Kronenberger Grant For Z Scale Promotions

More

In January of 2007, Z scale lost a friend and promoter, Bill Kronenberger. Bill was a consummate promoter of Z scale, actively attending shows, establishing the Z-Bend Track standards, educating Z scalers and sharing his passion. To honor Bill’s memory, we have created the ‘Kronenberger Grant For Z Promotions’. The goal of this grant is to provided funds for clubs and individuals who are actively promoting Z scale by attending shows, events and functions.

We understand that many of you have made major commitments towards the promotion and growth of Z scale, and we hope the funds that the grant can provide will help offset costs and encourage further involvement in shows and events. Grant monies will be available for such costs as travel expenses, fees, and layout enhancements that further the visibility and promotion of Z scale. To apply for a grant, please contact Rob Kluz at Ztrack Magazine.

An application form can be found and submitted on Ztrains.com:

www.ztrains.com/z-scale-news/kronenberger-grant/

Ztrack Magazine and the sponsors will provide free of charge promotional media for shows and events. All requests for media should be made three to four weeks prior to the event.

If you are interesting in contributing to the grant, please contact Rob for further information. Thank you for helping us honor Bill and his legacy.

Please visit the Grant site page of additional information and updates:

Hi Rob,

This sounds like a great thing. I knew Bill well. We used to have many instant message conversations that when I couldn't seem to understand, he just said "give me your phone # and lets talk on the phone", he was always very helpfull and I learned so much about electronics and circuit making in the prossess. We spoke for endless hours. I learned a lot from him and miss him dearly.

However, I don't like his name being used by 2 for profit companys to grant this gift, it just doesn't seem right to me. This should in MHO be done by a non profit and not include advertizing for profit. I'm a member and board member of the Wilton Garden Club and a member of the Federated Garden Clubs of America, a non-profit organazation. I'm a very avid gardener. Our by laws state no member can sell anything to another member in the Wilton Garden Club"s name. Artical 8 section 8 also states "Robert's Rules of Order Revised shall be the parlimentary authority in all matters not specified in the By-Laws of the club".

Now that I've stated that, I find it a dis-honor to Bill Kronenberger's memory to do this with advertizing MTL and Ztrack magazine. If this was done as a non-profit and advertizing and was done as a non-profit and ask for donations from the z community I would have made a donation and I'm sure many others would have as well. I would like to here from other ZCS members of thier opinions of this post. I have no intention of starting a war, just diplamatic opinions of how I feel about this. All the best to how this goes, I just disagree with how it's being done. Can I get money to go to the Denver Z convention? :)

Michael,

I feel it is very important to give credit to where credit is due. Both myself (Ztrack) and MTL have made a commitment to support this grant. We will be listing other donors, both companies and individuals, as donations are received. There is no agenda here. It is part of the full discloser and transparency that this program has. But it does make writing your thank you notes easier since you know who to address them to :)

This grant about promoting the positives of Z scale. Positivity... it is really that simple.

Rob, Michael,

Being part of a youth soccer association for 18+ years which was/is a 501.c.3 organization. I have been on both sides of the fence with grants and scholarships. I never had the gracious opportunity to meet Mr. Kronenberger but as long as his immediate family approved of this wonderful honor I see no problem. Many corporations have grants and scholarships for many reasons. As long as all involved parties are known and that there is a clearly defined process, I am fine with that.

Rob, on part of Z Central Station's modeling community efforts, may I have permission to convert the online application to a Microsoft Word document and post on ZCS? Then the Z scale community can simply download the Kronenberger Grant Application, fill it out at their convenience and email it to you?

I understand Michael's point of view on this, and John brings up a good point, that I was also wondering... Does Mr. Kronenberger's family/relatives approve of the use of his name for this grant?
