AZL March 2012 New Items - Southern Pacific! was created by ztrack
AZL has announced three new items for March. First, AZL is excited to announce tri-level autoracks. These are all new tooling! The first release is Southern Pacific.
Two runner packs and two singles have been released. The first runner pack is item 91000-1. The road numbers are 516116, 516128, 516136 and 516139. The second runner pack is item 91000-2. The road numbers are 517024, 517053, 517127 and 517236. The MSRP is $131.00.
The first single car is item 91950-1. The road number is 80730. The second single car is item 91950-2. The road number is 517047. The MSRP is: $38.00.
A Southern Pacific 'Kodachrome' bay window caboose has been released. The SP only painted one cabooses in the failed SP/ATSF merger paint scheme. The AZL release faithfully represents this caboose. The item number is 92000-8. The road number is 4726. The MSRP is $64.00.
AZL has release Southern Pacific 3-bay ACF hoppers. A runner pack and single car has been released. The runner pack is item 90307-1. The road numbers are 496472, 496482, 496483 and 496496. The MSRP is $119.00.
The single car is item 91307-1. The road number is 496526. The MSRP is $36.00.

Are bi-level or tri-level autoracks more likely to be seen on a modern railroad?

There is a good history on Wikipedia:

Yes, more modern... being 1960s and later. During the initial years, these autoracks would have been open. They would be enclosed later to protect the cars during transport from damage (and vandalism).
The part on the Vert-a-pac in the Wikipedia article is really interesting. I also did not realize Trailer Train was formed by the PRR and N&W. Hmmm...

Ben, they are modern. I ask Railcar forum. They told me by-levels are for suvs and trucks, and tri-levels are for cars.
