I might be able to get a picture of the Paul Bunyan from here in Portland if you want it. I've seen it before, and I know roughly where it's at (they moved it last year to make way for the city's model railroad called MAX).

I realize there are pictures elsewhere on the web, but I can share it here and no copyright issues. I can also get pictures from multiple angles.

BTW, Fred, it seems like the Portlandia statue would be right up your alley. It would be a definitely recognizable landmark to Portlanders.

Cheers,
Jeremy

Jeremy, Now why didn't I think of that!!!??? It shall be done! I've been to Portland several times- The Columbia is beautiful, and the smell of the woods was welcome to the sailors being at sea for months. The bar near Astoria can be treacherous! We went to Swan Island for yard period, than to Longview, Wa. to load grain for India. Sweetie-aka DRAGONLADY- and I made the loop and I made a model of the Kalamouth arched bridge-- Even went to Timberline without snow chains. I was thinking I might incorperate a fish ladder also. I'll be able to make my model from the pictures I've found but Kelley does more fine work and may need additional fotos - maybe he'll pipe up. Maybe you could find out the height, and I can work from there.
Thanks,
Fred

Just let me know what is needed. I'll try to find out.

What is the Kalamouth arched bridge? I've never heard of it and it doesn't show up in Google.

Also, speaking of Kelley and his fine work - maybe he could do Bigfoot, aka Sasquatch for the Northwest? The hair would present a challenge.

Ah! The Multnomah Falls Bridge. I think I heard it was the most photographed bridge in Oregon. I have several pictures of it as I take pictures of it everytime I go there. It's in an awesome spot over the lower falls with the upper falls coming down behind it.

For those that don't know, this is a pedestrian bridge. But it is only about 200 yards from the UP line that runs through the Columbia River Gorge from Portland to points east. I wonder if the train engineers ever get tired of that awesome view. The stream that runs from the falls to the Columbia River passes under a longer version of the bridge I've been building.

I've thought of doing a diorama of this scene. My son made one in a shoebox. I wanted to do it in Z scale. But it would have been almost 3' tall!

Cheers,
Jeremy

Jeremy, The memory grows dimmer with each passing year, but I think I recal someone here posting a completed diorama of the Multnomah Falls and surrounding areas. Cheers, Jim CCRR:unsure:

Beverly- It was on either the History or Military cable channel. If I see it again I will pay closer attention.

Fred,

We don't get either channel.

I did Google it and found that rail service with the Rocky Mountaineer is a thriving tourist enterprise. Here are the various vacation packages available . Knowing the grandeur of the Canadian Rockies, the BC Interior as well as the coast to coast tours, it looks like there are great vacations to be had which ever tour a person takes :)

Fotos to follow--
I have completed a Z project that is the combination of Hyperion- the worlds tallest tree and Chandelier- the tunnel tree. Hyperion is 380 feet tall, 26' in diameter, at breast height. The bark is 12" thick and soft. Shoot clones sprout from burles surrounding the root system, and major limbs start at a height of 135'. Young trees can grow as much as 8' a year, and some trees are 2,200 years old. This model is 390' at ROAD LEVEL.

390'

Z = 21" 1.7 feet
;) N = 28.9" 2.4 feet
:) TT = 38.5" 3.2 feet ----:cheer: HO= 53.1" 4.4'
:laugh: S = 72.2" 6.0 feet
:ohmy: O = 96.2" 8 feet
:S
LGB = 205.4" 17 feet :woohoo:
