This is a section of the Cheasapeake and Ohio Canal..I hope to model part of it as it is quite unusual and I don't think any model railroad has done it. Trains can run parallel to canal or over it with bridge work and scenery. A couple of things to knote:
1. feeder dam built to control water level in river
2. guard lock to control water level in canal
3.culvert allows water to enter canal at lower level
4. water backing up at lift lock
5. and 6. if water level too high- lockmaster could drain excess through flumes and weirs
What interested me the most was the bridge carrying water- and boats over the river-- and the canal that enters a tunnel into the hillside. Both common to trains- but not often seen with canals and boats.
Note too- the tunnels, bridge and locks are one boat wide and main canal at least two wide- allowing two way traffic.
Another note:: This is good for very early steam and for the most modern diezels--as parts of the canal are preserved and operated today as a National Park.

You could easily do that with NSM's canal barges www.thenarch.com/products/erie-canal-barge-z

I might be. at 2.3' long it would look really impressive while not too gigantic to carry.

This would be a good choice with the upcoming movie about her.

The "containers" in hold are heavy foto copy paper. The ones on the sides indicate the hold still has boxes to discharge from the wings. The bottom of the hold has copies of the Tops of containers, indicating there are additional levels of containers below water line.
Walt- all the dark blue containers are either P&O or Hanjin..No CSX
