- sorry back spaces do not work here0
- I'm trying to make the comment, but it doesn't seem to work
www.locomotives.com.pl/Freight Tank Locomotives/TKt48.htm0
- Yeah it avoids the problem, but with the info you provided navigation to the locomotive info was possible.

Beverly, I'm glad you and your dad liked the pictures.

David, yes that is the reason why computers put backslashes in front of apostrophes. Apostrophies usually mean the end of a string or character. To make the program parse the string correctly that contains an apostrophe, you need an escape character (backslash) to let the parser know to ignore it. I wonder if putting a backslash in front of the space in the original url would fix the problem. I'll test it next post (It works in unix, linux and mac os x)0
- Konrad, just posting a link to the main page misses the point of being able to post a link exactly to the where you want - so it avoids the issue rather than solves it ...

David, I like TinyURL solution! My mind was too clouded with anger to think about this.
I guess you are right about annoying habits of this particular software.0
- Konrad,

I sent a copy of your photo to my dad who is now almost 80 years old. As a child, he lived with his family (with twelve!! siblings) across the street from the train station, in the town of Watrous, Saskatchewan. He says the train looked familiar. By phone, I managed to teach him how to use Googlemaps so he could see the city where the photo was taken. Very cool locomotive
Again, thanks for posting it.
0 - Well, so obviously one cannot use any encoded URL characters in the comments. So, if there are any percent signs in a URL, don't bother trying to post it here--convert it to a TinyURL first.

(I wonder if this issue is at all related to the annoying habit the software has of adding backslashes before any apostrophes in the gallery image title and description...)0
-
Right. The forum software is converting the URL's original characters into spaces.

If you replace each space in the original URL with a percent sign and the number 20, it will work, like this (which might not work either--no knowing until it's posted: Freight Tank Locomotives/TKt48.htm

If there are spaces in the bolded text, then there's no hope of creating a live link in the photo comments for that URL.

Of course, when all else fails, you can turn the whole thing into a TinyURL, like this:

tinyurl.com/ylrnz5aThe other one breaks because it contains spaces in the URL0
- I would just post the link to: www.locomotives.com.pl/

The other one breaks because it contains spaces in the URL0
- One final test (and than I will give up  )
www.locomotives.com.pl/Freight Tank Locomotives/TKt48.htm0
- Oh well ...
I miss the old Z Central Station!0
- I give up
The only way at the moment seems to be to copy and paste the address:
www.locomotives.com.pl/Freight Tank Locomotives/TKt48.htm0
- it is beginning to get on my xxxx
www.locomotives.com.pl/Freight Tank Locomotives/TKt48.htm0
- or ...
www.locomotives.com.pl/Freight Tank Locomotives/TKt48.htm[/url0
- still doesn't work ...
One more try:
www.locomotives.com.pl/Freight Tank Locomotives/TKt48.htm0
- Hi Konrad,
My original link is faulty
I should have tested it ...
What I was trying to link to was this:
TKt48 (www.locomotives.com.pl/Freight Tank Locomotives/TKt48.htm)
(it's already in English and fairly comprehensive)
I wish I could preview this message, but it's not possible for some reason when doing picture comments...
So let's hope it works this time0
- I will provide some more info about this loco once I translate some of the tech info I have about it from polish into english :-)0
- And another clarification ...
tender loco is really "germanism" - from Tenderlokomotive
I should have said tank locomotive
Sorry.0
- Unfortunately one cannot either preview or edit comments on photos
hence weirdos like 1948) caused by putting 1948 in brackets ...
0 - It's TKt48 (www.locomotives.com.pl/Freight Tank Locomotives/TKt48.htm)
where
T=towarowy (goods)
K=kusy (tender loco)
t=1-4-1 (axle layout, 2-8-2 in Whyte notation)
48=year of design (1948)

The one in Szczecin (Stettin), in the photo, is a monument0
- Konrad,

This is a beautiful locomotive
Can you please tell me more about it, such as is it part of a train museum display, or is it currently running a regular route? TIA :-)
