Weathering by Tom Mann

Well, got my 'Weathering' book today. I missed out on the initial printing run and couldn't find the 40 page heavyweight magazine style book anyware. I got mine through the printing company at: www.lulu.com The book was about 18.95 and with shipping, it cost me $30.23. They print the copies as ordered now after the additional run.
So consider this a mini-review. Let's take a look. First off the overall style of the magazine, its presentation, may be distracting to some. It takes awhile to get used to it. This is not big issue by any means. Once you get used to this 'busy' format the real deal appears on the pages. Basically this book is fantastic. It presents for the beginner and the advanced modeler different weathering techniques. I really like the air brush basics in the Introduction. Tom's idea was to begin with easy techniques and use these 'first steps' to build up to advanced techniques. He pulls this off quite well and I'm sure most of us will be able to do it all if we have the will power. Tom's book is not an article you may find on weathering in your LHS. This is the real deal. 40 great pages worth. There are some hidden gems here. Did you know that 'Future Floor Finish' from Johnson is key element to some techniques? Who knew? Also Tom lists his favorite products and gives reasons for his decisions. I like this. Finally, worth the price? By all means. This is a mandantory item for the model railroader regardless of scale. Thanks for the review Jim. One of my customers got a copy of this book and brought it in to show me. I got a brief thumb through and it appears to be well worth the purchase price. Now I just need to track down one for myself.
