Those roof walk outs by GClaser..well you don't need to be a city slicker from the big town to use those or a sky scraper.
Coming from the Midwest and tornado ally, I remember lots of old farmsteads with root cellars. Those roof walkouts on a little mound of dirt are just the thing to preserve those Z canned peaches and beans, or protect your Z folk from tornadoes or Russkie missiles flying in from Cuba.
I had one neighbor who never got around to building a house, just had kind of a closed foundation thing, and one of those roof walkout thingies in a corner.
Believe it or not they have some similar ones in Germany still around some of the rail lines, built to protect the Bahn people from the Jabos back in the day.
