Updated Caterpillar D8 was created by Heavy-Equipment-Designer
This is the new updated Caterpillar D8. It’s an early 1970’s version before voluntary ROPS requirement. It has a 300 hp straight 6 turbocharged diesel engine, a U-blade and an operating weight of 35+ tons. This was a huge beast back in the early 1970’s, only second to the CAT D-9 (operating weight of about 47 tons) for a single engine dozer. Improvements made where a lot more detail on the engine and individual grousers and track links.
You can see the brute size of the D-8 as it sits next to the new and improved early 1970’s CAT 955 which was a decent size midsize tracked frontend loader that came in at 15 tons with a 2 yard bucket.
It’s now available at my Shapeways store at www.shapeways.com/shops/Micro%20American%20Rail%20Prototypes
