EMD SW1500 was created by stonysmith
Kevin Smith has been at his detailing work again:

SW1500 model available here

The model is "static" - there is no motorized chassis that will fit under it at this time. However, I did setup the trucks such that they could turn and the wheels also are free to rotate.

In truth, I created this model to try to spur one of the 'big four' manufacturers into providing us with one that is motorized. Any takers?

I would be willing to bet that if someone were to actually produce the working model, they would make a killing. What a shame MTL dropped the idea. They have dropped too many ideas in the past...........bad MTL.

Maybe an idea for Rokuhan.... Although MTL just has to shorten their gp35 chassis , David K showed how.Gerd did several mp15dcs, I did a n SW1000 to show that it could be done.

I know quite a few folks want Rokuhan to enter the North American market with some type of loco offering, but it's not going to happen for a while. They are a Japanese company focused on expanding their Japanese market. But, who knows... they might just surprise us all. They have produced many firsts for Z-scale in the short time they have entered the market. I find it quite interesting that their quality control is quite tight, being that all their products are made in China. AZL, IM, and MTL seem to have problems with this.

I think part of this is Rokuhan maintains an full time office in Hong Kong, with easy access into adjacent industrial region of China and the owner is a frequent visitor. Rokuhan parent also produce a larger variety of toys for various companies globally, which are also made in China and Hong Kong which brings the owner to The USA and Europe frequently also. so he seems to keep a tight grip on his company and what is happening and all their projects even thou he has trusted lieutenants in each division. In February he is off to Germany for the Nuremberg toy fair. Rokuhan has announced their next diesel hydraulic switcher with and interesting wheel arrangement B+ C trucks. There is a drive there to be number one in Z globally.

Garth has hit the nail on the head. I worked for many years at "fabless" semiconductor companies and quality in Asia is directly proportional to the company's involvement at the contractor. We usually had at least monthly visits until we hired a locals. The sales reps for the contract manufacturers will always say they are a "turnkey solution."
And I have a 1:220 red bridge I'd like to sell you. I actually marvel at AZL's success in Asia considering how infrequently they appear to visit.
