Color coding was created by ULie
Hello all,

I want to build some of the Craftmans kits ad paint them in the right color. I know that there are a list of colors from Polly Scale that are named like "TTX yellow" or "CP yellow" or "ATSF red" (those are just example name). Unfortunately I can get the Polly Scale colors only from one source, but I can get others like Vallejo or ModelMaster from different sources. But those have different names, or they only have military names or an item number. For German colors there is the RAL list , and as I understood there is a list namend "Federal Standard" for the US. My vendor even had a printed list (but just one copy...) which connected numbers from the Federal Standard system to the RAL system and the names at the different manufacturers. Unfortunately without a connection to Polly Scale.

Is there somewhere on the web a list that connects those railroad colors to at least one of those systems?

Thank you Kelley for the link, but I'm looking for a conversion of those names like "TTX yellow" or "ATSF red" or such to a number in the color systems. It seems only Testors Polly Scale colors can be had under those names, all the other colors are named for their use in the military.

Ulie,

Try this one. I remembered it from my plastic model days when all you would get from a Japanese kit is Gunze Sanyo color number

colors.silicon-dragons.com/

It matches colors by the color name given by the manufacturer and gives the item numbers for the closest colors in the brand you want, if they exist. There used to be another one called www.paint4models.com that was pretty good, but I think it is gone now.
