What's up Jon? :woohoo: Nice pic of the crane the one I have has a shorter body, but I found a set of ladders for the back. If you have any small part for a crane like exhaust pipes laying around let me know and I'll buy them. In the back ground you can see a shot of the back side with the ladders!!!! B). I was making a Logging trailer In the front. thanks for the picture.

Hey Walt, ladders look great. Where did you get those? You don't have to add diesel exhaust pipes because you have a steam powered crane and a smoke stack on the top. But many railroads started to convert their cranes to diesel power in the late 40's up to about the 1970's when high rail cranes took over along with pipelayer crawlers. That being said, there still are some big iron cranes riding the rails today and still earning their keep. But hey are quickly becoming extincted (scraped) or being retired to museums....

But if you do choose to convert to diesel, you'll have to add more windows and doors in the front. Your crane (not the case with larger cranes) has big steam pistons in the front to drive the hoist drums and slew gear. So the operator actually operated the crane from the rear door. When they did conversions on these small cranes (150 tons or less), they moved the operator station up front and usually did a lot of sheet metal rework. Some machine shops even completely re did the entire housing of the crane. Railroads took a lot of pride in these rebuilds and it was still a heck of a lot cheaper then buying a new more modern machine. For a crane your size, they would eliminate the smoke stack and just run the exhaust right out the upper part of the rear wall. The example I showed you is a 250 ton crane (almost twice the size of yours) and had two side by side mounted diesel power plants in the rear.

Love the logging trailer. One of these days I'd like to do an Autocar truck (cab and hood style before Volvo bought them) which would go perfect with your trailer. But you'll probably be long done with your saw mill before I get around to that one....

Thanks for the information on the crane! I'll e-mail you. But it's fun adding things to make them look more real it's just hard to fine things unless you can make them yourself. Thanks again, It seem this is the only way to talk to anyone.

The Steam exhaust on top is in the Back so I thought I would put the Flashing yellow light there! :) I think that would look nice and I could hook the power from the track to power the light.

silk thread can be purchased in many colours and is very flexible so will work for cables. Cranes were always accompanied by a boom car and a tool car in service. a gondola works for boom caror you could use a flat car and build up sides and you can place tool bins along side of car and cut access opening in side of gondola body with ladder and can even use part of a caboose for a tool shed on one end of the car and drop a truck or two on the floor with some wheels for a working crane and boom car. you can also shorten the box of the 905 before installing it in the end plates.
