Gerd, that's the best complement I could get and what I'm trying to go for. I had to print it with the "print it anyway" option at Shapeways because I used the old rules in order to print the separate hand/foot rung treads. But like anything from Shapeways, lots of finishing work needed to be done.... Which is to bad because if Shapeways would let you set the orientation of how the model is printed, a model like this could be split right down the middle and printed both sides up. Flat side surface quality would be much better and a lot less finishing work would be needed. Basically, Shapeways is the Walmart of rapid prototyping... You get what you pay for and nothing else. Moddler does an excellent job with FUD printing www.moddler.com/index.php They will print it in your desired orientation... But they are not cheap like Shapeways and they are a job shop so stores to sell your stuff on. I hate to say it but Shapeways is really almost only good for a cheap proof of concept....
